A closed-off kitchen reworked into one long working wall, a generous island and a proper pantry tower.
The back of this house opened onto a drop, so the first job was levels: wide wrap-around steps now bring you down from the door to the pool terrace without the awkward change in height that was there before.
Above it, a covered porch with a ceiling fan and wood-look flooring gives a shaded room that works through a Carolina August and still holds up in November. The roof structure was matched to the existing house so the addition does not announce itself.
